Since we’re all still putting away post-holiday goodies, here’s a pair of timely Resolution Solutions that help reduce clutter AND do something good for others:

Did you get a new coat from your spouse? A new sweater from your mom? Or did you just get those great new shoes as a special gift for yourself? With all the great things you will receive this holiday season it is also a great way to give back to those who are in need. Instead of waiting till the Spring to clean out your closets use this time as an opportunity to make room for all your new wears that you receive and give someone else the joy of a warm coat or sweater this Holiday Season most shelters and organizations would appreciate the donations at this chilly time of year!- Christie Raupp, Practical Redesign (www.practicalredesign.com)

Practice the “One in, One out” rule. Everytime you purchase something new, you must throw out or donate something old. This works best for clothes and childrens toys.- Kathryn Warden, The Art of Order, LLC (theartoforder@verizon.net)

One extra note - try applying “One in, One out” to your Let’s Dish! meals as well; every time you eat a dish, start defrosting the next so you’re not caught without. Hey, you could even decide to share one if the spirit moves you!

I love the “One in, One out” idea. I actually keep an open shopping bag on the floor in the corner of my closet. I place my “giveaways” in the bag. When the bag is full I drop it off at Goodwill. This will certainly fill the bag more frequently.

I find Freecycle is a great way to acheive one-in, one out. There are lots of people in your community who will come to your house to pick up your unwanted things. It saves a LOT of stuff from going to landfill.
